INTERIOR DESIGN / Throws

I like using throws as interior decoration details. Throws are practical, especially, in our northern country, especially so, in our naturally air-conditioned old house ; ).

When browsing through interior design magazines and books, you can not avoid seeing sofas and armchairs loaded with pillows. No denying, that the pictures look nice, but where to sit; where to place the pillows, if you are invited to sit and " make yourself comfortable "?

I have throws around the house, but this time decided to show you the two above.
One of them was bought in 1997, and by mere chance, I managed to snatch a duplicate last December, for practically nothing.

The throws are by Mulberry, from it´s " golden days ", wool and mohair, made in England.
I have this odd " thing " of mine to buy doubles ( or half a dozen ) of things. I had long hoped to buy a pair for the original Mulberry throw, and I knew the store that once sold them, only I did not know, that they would still have it, over 10 years later.

I like the colors ( not surprising ) on the throws. Even the checked fabric, which doesn´t excite me in clothes, feels ok on the throws.
Using very different colors and patterns together is risky, but since our downstairs has gray here and there, I dared to take the challenge, and imo, the result works quite well.

The other benefit the throws provide, is that they protect delicately colored and textured furniture.
I´m sure that our white divan would not stay white with Morty sporting around the living room.
Luckily he has never hopped on the day bed - yet!

Which do you prefer more; throws, pillows or both?

I love your throws and, like you, I feel uncomfortable when too many pillows are used. I keep a throw on my couch.
Hope you are feeling better

I like your throws. I like pillows, too, but just not so many, as we often see. One, but a not-too-fat-one, to tuck into your back, is nice. Did you get more snow?

Pillows usually annoy me when sitting. I do like throws tho and your's are particularly attractive. When travelling I carry a smallish throw. It rolls up nicely and fits in a carry on bag for a plane or train. I've even used it as an extra blanket in sleeper on the train.

decorative pillows are a pet peeve of mine! I have two extra sturdy pillows on my bed to use when reading ( I hope to one day have a bed with a cushioned board though)
Blankets or throws are very popular in our apartment, though only one is used at a time, we keep it on the bed to be used for a quick afternoon nap or take it into the living area in the evenings when we watch a film.

A nice balance of grays in the middle picture, very pretty.

I do like some cushions, but they should come as polite visitors to the armrests, not conquering pillow armies to take over the whole couch, leaving you no clear place to sit. DH would be happy if there were none. A couple of throws to warm up the cold gray winter, then cleaned and put away in the summer.

Both, I have a throw in each room for comfort if reading or watching a movie on TV. I adore switching out pillows to instantly update for seasonal change!

I like both, but always make sure that the pillows are very soft down, and not too puffy or filled.
I have 3 throws in our living room at the moment.
I feel like furniture can look empty without them.
The Mulberry ones are beautiful. I'm also in the process of knitting one.

Have always liked your throws especially the fur ones.

Have only a couple of cushions on the sofas,as I have white sofas'chairs, use my throws to protect them.

Love cashmere throws especially with fringes.

Have never cared for cushions on a bed....when I stay in hotels they get chucked on the floor....they are too fussy & make more work.

Less is more for this gel.Ida

I love throws, but I have a fear of fuzz going up my nose...so the kind of knits are key:).

I have a new sofa being delivered tomorrow...it needs a throw ;)

I like the grays in your soft-looking throw and I'm sure our cat would appreciate it as well.

Your plaid throw is pretty.

I love both pillows and throws. The pillows help support my back, and throws are cozy and warm. The kitties like throws too.

I hope you are feeling better!

Helen, thank you for your concern- I´m feeling much better : ) already.

Sanda, I have nothing against pillows, and sometimes, just like you said, it is nice to tuck one into your back.
But I dislike the " set-ups " with pillows..

Darla, to have an own throw along on trips you mentioned, feel cozy. I must remember that next time I go somewhere.

Ana, aah, a nap, under a soft throw, I love it too!

Patricia, I really have a soft spot for gray in i.d.
We have one huge pillow on an armchair- just for looks - but it is removed, when sitting on the chair.

Karena, thanks for visiting!
True, changing the pillows and throws every now and then or seasonally, is like changing your winter wear to summer wear = fun.

Kathy, true. Without pillows or throws, a room looks too bare, too minimalist.
Wow, you have a big process going on!

Ida, especially the British interior magazines are stuffed with pictures of sofas and beds with pillows. One above the other. The pictures look nice, but in reality, how does one manage with so many of them around; )?

Lisa, sorry, but I did not " get " your message ( ;

J.W., Congratulations! These throws would be just p e r f e c t for furry J.W. !!

Susan T., a reasonable amount of pillows is ok, yes?
And - I´m really feeling much better, thank you for asking : ).
