It is Friday today.
I just washed Morty. Having washed the dog, I also washed the floors downstairs. A woman´s work for today is done ( hopefully ).
Therefore I took the liberty to spend some leisure time, and viewed, what my favorite online stores have come up for today.
I like Mytheresa and Net-A-Porter, new selections three times a week, and should I order before noon, I´ll have my package here in 24 hours!
So far, I have only ordered three pairs of shoes. No clothing so far, as I don´t like sending back and forth to get the right size.
But today, I viewed clothing. The first three pictures above are from Mytheresa ( if I remember correctly ).
A week ago, blogger " That´s not my age ", showed an outfit by Mary Katrantzou. I have never heard about the designer before, but pictures 1., 2. and 3. show two dresses and one top by her.
Somehow, the mix of patterns and colors look fresh and interesting.
The first one is my favorite, but I´d prefer a more open neckline. The colors are pretty.
Pictures 4. and 5. are clothes by Etro. The skirt is really cute. Silk - great. I wonder where it is made? Hopefully in Italy ; )..
Sometimes scrolling through the online stores is fun. Like today ; ).
I have noticed, that I no longer buy my monthly fashion magazines, having the access to internet.
So, what about you; do you shop through the internet or do you just look at the pictures? What things do you buy and why/ why not?
Is there a lot of receiving and returning packages over at your place?
Please share your thoughts and experiences about online-shopping while enjoying a very happy weekend!!/m

Those are very pretty pieces you've found! The only online retailer I buy from is Talbots because I know their fit. I look at clothing and shoes on other Internet sites but like you, don't relish the back and forth if it was a mistake due to sizing. Have a nice weekend!
I mostly shop online due to time constraints and the fact that so few retailers actually stock petite sizes in their stores anymore. I've ordered a couple of things from Net-a-Porter over the years and was quite pleased with the packaging and presentation. I also like how NAP shows several views of the item, and ideas for styling.
I think I want the job of giving clothing mysterious names--Iron Lung?
If there were a local boutique where I knew the owner and had everything I was looking for (like shopping with my mother when I was a child) I would prefer that. But I buy online, because of what deja pseu said. Initially there were aggravating returns, but now I know how brands fit me and that is rare.
I particularly like the red skirt. Have a great weekend.
I do shop online, especially Net-a-Porter, because they carry things I wouldn't be able to find in store in LA. The returns are easy, and free - they include a return pre-paid postage label.
My Theresa has great things, but because they don't have a warehouse in the US, the returns are a big pain, so I don't buy online there, but I do look.
Like you, these are my new fashion magazines.
Much easier to navigate. I love the first dress also, but like you, wish it had a more open neck, even a slit neck would be nice.
I love the first dress the best...and I do shop on-line but primarily from stores I can go to where I try the outfit for size and then wait for sale : )
In general I do not do returns but in general I do not buy dresses on-line, only tees perhaps.
I hope you have a very nice weekend! xx
I shop online at Lands End mostly for their cashmere sweaters.
I would be intimidated to buy from most online shops because of the fit issues.
Fortunately I have a local boutique where I know the owner and the sales staff are efficient and honest. Their stock is a bit expensive but they have fabulous sales at the end of each season where I can always find great basics...I recently purchased a top which I showed on my latest post.
Hope that your work is done and that you have a lovely weekend.
I just purchased a pair of boots from piperlime (1st time) and have also purchased shoes from zappos. I find shoes easier to shop for as sizing is usually a little more standard. But saying that my last clothing purchase was from Vince, 2 of the 3 worked, and the 1 return was easy. I love the 2nd dress by the way, great colors!
For 600 Euros, I certainly hope that skirt is made in Italy and not in China, or else the markup is really quite obscene. :D
I shop for a lot of things on the Internet, but clothes/shoes only when I am replacing something I already own so I know the exact fit of it. Otherwise, I have to try things on (and also the colors don't always look the same in real life as they do in the pictures because of the differences in monitors etc.) If it is a totally new-to-me brand, then I have to see it and try on in person. (Conversely, I buy a lot of things like eco dishwashing soap & laundry detergent from places like amazon.com because they are cheaper than the local stores - also a chain, by the way, Whole Foods - who sell those products.)
The only online shopping I do is for an occasional book to send as a gifts - ships directly to giftee. No clothes online for me but the design on the cashmere scarf really caught my eye as you might imagine.
Darla
I love shopping online. Usually I wait for style/fashion bloggers I read to show me something interesting and then if I think it will work I buy it. Copycat!
Thank you so much for your visit and comment. I ma so honoured.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I have purchased very few items of clothing (like you, mostly shoes) online. At the prices of these lovely items, I think I would want to try them on in person...and inquire about alterations if need be.
Sanda, viewing the online stores is like browsing through magazines, isn´t it? I also read other kind of news from it, and so save by not buying a bunch of newspapers. And internet, as it is in reality time, we get the latest news.
Susan, the way the things are packed, e.g. NAP, is one of their marketing tricks ; ). What exactly are the petite sizes? Over here, we have all sizes available, only shoes are more difficult to get, as many manufacturers don´t make really large sizes. Luckily, I have no problem with sizes.
Patricia, hahaa- you make me laugh. Yep, the names are odd!
Living in a small country, which has almost everything available, is an asset. As I have written, I shop from about 3 shops these days, one of them selling lingerie. Just lately I realized, that our grandest department store, Stockmann, only provides me with tights ( as they often have a campaign on Wolford tights ) and cosmetics ( don´t buy those often ). I guess I go there, to get out from the cold, and in summer to avoid the heat ( which occurs only seldom ).
But, like said, I like to browse through the online shops and like the feeling I get, when I don´t order anything ; )!!
Kathy, exactly. I´m privileged to live in Europe, as it is easy to shop online over here, and the returns are free of charge. Mytheresa is very reliable. I like tracking down my ordered product; when it left Leipzig and arrived to Helsinki and when it is with the currier..
We have national web-stores too, just waiting for a mattress for Morty to arrive. It is the first article bought online from Finland!
You wrote how I feel about the dress too : ). Only when and where would I use it ; )?
MrsLJ, it is nice to look at pretty clothes and imagine wearing them, but as I wrote in my previous post - jeans are more important to me, and I wanted to try them on, instead of ordering them directly. Although I have had jeans from the same company, and know my size, the models change over the time.
Enjoy your Sunday! We are having a massive snowstorm here - again!
Leslie, sounds, that you have a fortunate situation over at your area. Congratulations!
Diane, shoes, yes, if you know the brand. I bought my Tod´s online, having tried on a pair over here, and since the shop was unable to get a size larger, it was an easy purchase, as were the ankle boots. So now I know the Tod´s sizing ; ).
There is an excitement moment waiting.. and finally receiving, isn´t there?
MTH, I think that online stores should print black on white all the details.
Burrberry products, whatever price, are made all over the world, and I really dislike having to pay a high price and finding out, that it was made in e.g. Romania ( my personal matter ).
Oh, I´d like to order everyday stuff online and have it carried to my home door, as I hate shopping the essential household stuff!
Darla, I placed the scarf on display just for you : )!
I have never ordered books, as I like to go to our bookstore to browse through them, before buying one - strange.
Susan T, do you like the excitement waiting for your delivery to come?
Nothing bad in first getting info through fashion blogs, before making up your decision to buy/ not to buy!!
Sacramento, perhaps you have mistaken me for some other person. But thank you anyways. I might visit your blog : ).
Terri, I´d have to be absolutely sure, were I to buy something as expensive as these dresses. And then I´d have to have a limitless credit card ; ).
Luckily, I´m not ordering any of these, I just wished to create some conversation about shopping online : )!!
Mette,"petite" sizes are designed for women 5'4" and under. The sleeves, pant legs, hems are shorter, the waistline on dresses and jackets is set higher, and often armholes are just a bit higher and shoulders slightly narrower. For someone like me at 5'1", the proportion of the overall garment, not just lengths is the difference between something looking right or not. It's great not having to get everything hemmed, but also some items would require much more complicated alteration than that and make an item prohibitively expensive. Lines that offer "petite" sizes often carry a full range of sizes, but alas fewer and fewer retailers are stocking them in stores.
Susan, thank you for the info : )!
You always find something different to show us,sadly I have little patience to browse too long on the net!
I have bought a few things, but shoes never work for me. Think it is too early for Elms new collection have you spotted anything?
Do get a buzz when a package arrives.
Am waiting for cashmere socks from Falke at least they will fit!!Ida
Ida, the two net shops are quickly browsed, I seldom visit the others, as there is so much stuff, nor do I compare the prices.
Not making an order on any of these.
This year, the shop selling Elms, has not ordered anything.I believe they made a too huge order last time, too bad..
My favorite socks right now are d.gray wool Burlington´s bought from a real store: )
Since I like to go shopping as an indoor physical activity I try not to purchase online. I like to look at the mannequins, feel the merchandise, and I hardly ever make a purchase because what I am looking for I can never find. That is when I get online and find many things I like but afraid it is too expensive or when I receive it I won't like it so I wait to go shopping again and yes it turns out to be a merry-go-round.
Angele, ; ), sounds like a circle indeed. Maybe you just have to lower your standards a bit to be able to get something!
I thought of you this weekend because I was walking down Madison Avenue and saw a number of stores (like Etro) that I mostly only know from your blog!!
One of the reasons I prefer to shop for clothing/shoes/leather goods in person unless I am just replacing something I already own is indeed because there isn't the full information available usually with an online purchase. I also like to make sure things are machine/hand washable and don't need drycleaning and that's something that's also not easy to tell. But it is absolutely wonderful to order my laundry detergent, etc., online at a discount for the brand I would buy anyway and which I already know well.
