DIVERSE / Browsing the Finnish Elle

Browsing through women´s magazines is not my speciality.
However, I decided to make an exception, and bought the Finnish " Elle " magazine ( 6,95€ ).

As known, many countries have their own Elle magazine. The concept is always the same, but the pictures, articles, clothes and people written about, differ and are chosen to interst the native readers.
I meant to buy also an English March version, in order to make some comparisons, but decided that it was not necessary, as the magazines are very much alike in different countries.
The only difference with the Finnish version is, that most of the clothes shown, can be bought from this country or online. The same goes with Elles in other countries.

If you have ever viewed Elle, you know how the story goes.
First ( 2. ), there is a view of the new trend in the fashion world. This time, it is the lowered waistline in skirts. The text tells us, that it is trendy to part one´s hair in the middle and let the root growth in your hair s h o w ! There are also make-up tricks. Just now " keeping it natural " is trendy.

Second, a local celeb ( I do not like her, so no pictures ), shows her wardrobe, which consists of high-end brands ( Chanel, YSL.. )

Each number has some interior design pictures, preferably the home of a celeb again. This time, the Finnish Elle shows ( 3. ) the home of Diane von Furstenberg!

Naturally beautifully pictured food ( 4. ) go along with the concept. Even I could make the omelette : ).

Next, one big brand is presented ( 5. ). This month it is Marni. There are lots of pictures showing Marni, and Marni with H & M.

Time for some seriousness. Picture ( 6. ) shows some ideas to cheer up your work outfit.
The articles shown are available from Finland, so this might be helpful for someone in doubt.
The work uniform over here differs from the ones I have seen in US blogs.

Now to the skincare products ( 7. ). Side by side is an expensive product and a cheaper version. Both get equal compliments.
Now this is something I have to read over, as I have only turned the pages so far..This could be a chance to find less expensive products for myself!

Picture ( 8. ) has gathered all the trendy spring styles. The places to buy, the prices are mentioned. Bluish hues, the lowered waistline, the clear lines, the small flower prints, the style of the 60´s, etc, etc.

The most ( imo ) interesting page comes last ( 9. ).
Some topical; current person reveals her wardrobe! This time a young model shows her favorite fashion pieces.

Perhaps I mixed the exact order in which the articles appear in the magazine. Hopefully you got the idea though.
Naturally there are ads all over the magazine, but IMO, they are not as out-striking and there are less of them compared to the, UK and US Elles. The brands are those, which are popular and available over here: Gant, Hugo Boss and some cosmetic companies.

Actually it was quite fun to write this post ( being an amateur ).
I even managed to save an article for future days ( ! ).

Though I have no special interest to read these magazines, I am sure, that especially this Finnish March version of " Elle " will cheer many younger and older women and give information they will appreciate.

Having only browsed through the magazine so far, maybe I´ll have a cup of coffee and read it over ; )!

Thanks for sharing these pictures. The layout and formula look pretty much the same as US versions of fashion magazines. I see a lot of bright colors there; are women in Finland picking up on the bright color trend?

I must admit that my eye was drawn chiefly to the Diane von Furstenberg picture because I am in love with the idea of libraries and walls full of books. When we eventually buy a place, I feel that the kitchen layout, and existence built-in bookshelves and a screened porch for the summertime will be my three most important features!

It is fun to read the trends, even if the one about letting roots show would look accidental to me. I recognize the reddish orange "color of the year." Are your red pants in that color? Glad you are feeling better.

I rarely buy these magazines anymore. In the US, they're so full of advertisements and other junk. I also get so tired of all the young, skinny, girls wearing the clothes. Would be so nice to have a magazine aimed at women over 40, wearing the clothing, etc.
I'm not sure why it hasn't happened, it seems we're the ones with more disposable income?

Susan, there are bright colors on clothes now, too early to tell how we will react. Personally, I choose not to choose them ; ).

MTH, I remember your interest for books. We have built -in bookshelves, but unfortunately not all the books are in the library room.

Patricia, showing the root growth is a passing trend, it just has to be ; ).
My red pants have the bluish red hue = not trendy.

Kathy, I agree, there are far too many magazines with the same concept. Our´s don´t have as much ads, as the US versions.
We also have different kinds of magazines over here, even for older women. I have not bought them yet, as I´m n o t that old ; )!

see you there! kirjoitti...

Fun post. I expecially like #6. Although I don't go to work the clothes seem very wearable. Maybe not the orange for me or the heels tho.

I've only ever thumbed through a US Elle at the hairdressers and it didn't appeal to me at all.

I love browsing through women's magazines and usually do that at the hair salon. Thanks for the update on skirt waist line and the hair trend. I like the lowered skirt waistline but don't understand the hair trend, letting roots show!

This would be a fun activity with a group of women friends over tea... Hope your day is beautiful! xx

Kathy has summed my attitude to these mags...have never read Elle but sounds like so many in the UK.

Some years back one was started here for older women it used older models from the 1960s upwards..it only lasted a couple of years...maybe the timing was wrong!

Thank you Mette for sharing your mag; with us,I would be interested in reading the make up article. I have no cosmetics as I had to throw them out due to a skin rash that suddenly flared up about 4mths ago.
Today I have the all clear on the biopsy I had on Friday.

So hopefully with care I can start introducing cosmetics back into my life!

Urg horrid hair roots on show..hands up how many of you are going to follow that trend....Ida

The roots showing trend started a few years back in London, with Alexa Chung having dark roots and lighter colored ends. Again, it's for very young women.
I don't think they mean for those of us who have gray roots to let them show for a few inches :)
@Ida - maybe that magazine was ahead of it's time?

I rarely buy magazines anymore. Sometimes when I am going on an airplane I will get one, as I don't feel I have to concentrate too hard when I read it, but I agree with Kathy about the ads being so annoying. Especially in things like Vogue. And I too will pass on the root growth -- who wants to see my grey roots?

Darla, good! As I have written before, browsing magazines is a post hobby for me, but enjoyed exploring what´s going on right now in the magazines: not much ( ;

MrsLJ, : ). My hairdresser is always " on time ", so I have no chance to look at magazines at her place (; , so I usually secretly browse through magazines 1-2 minutes at the stand, if I happen to have the time.

Ida, I´m so happy, that everything is ok now. And you have the chance to build your make-up kit from the start.
As a suggestion, what if you would choose everything from the same company! I find pleasure to have nice looking packages as well.

Kathy, there really would now be " space " for a luxurious magazine for women our age!!

Jacqueline, although I don´t have visible root growth, I dislike seeing it, especially on darker hair, ugh.
Vogue definitely has a lot of ads, but I react to them as " normal pages ", which show make-up, jewelry, clothes, accessories. Thus, it does not feel so bad.

I actually like when you do these posts. I no longer have news-stand access to such magazine sold abroad and this gives me a peak. In fact, unless I subscribe, I'm currently having trouble locating the March Vogue.

I think I need a change...Clarins had been the make up I had used for years...so how does one make choices..so much choice,products,brands I don't know where to start....should I use serums,primers etc,etc!!!!

My dermatologist said we all use too many products full of chemicals on our faces..so how do we decide?

Mette do you know of any blogs that deal with these issues? Ida

metscan kirjoitti...

Terri, what a nice comment! I am happy if I was able to brief and update you of what´s going on!

Ida, there are lots of blogs, which write about the skincare products. Everyone has their own favorites. I have not followed any of them.
But, I use Helena Rubinstein products myself. Only 2 cremes, one for eyes&lips, the other for face. I have chosen their extreme- line, as the change of weather is so great over here. And I am ok with it. I wash my face with liquid body soap from the pharmacies once a day, and use only water in the morning.
I know, there are too many brands to choose from, therefore I am stuck with HR products ; ).

ida kirjoitti...

Thank you Mette.....HR is not heard of often now over here, many years ago the brand was popular...must check out their website.

I like your simple routine. Ida

metscan kirjoitti...

Ida, quite odd, that UK does not have HR !
The line, I use by HR is Prodigy extreme for winter, some lighter version for spring, summer.
